Friday 1st July – Induction Service.
The induction of Rev Calum Murdo Smith will be held in the Kenneth Street church on Friday 1st July at 7.00pm.  Rev Malcolm Macleod, Shawbost, will preach and preside.

Due the current prevalence of Covid throughout the community the whole service, including presentations and welcoming speeches, will be held in the church and can be viewed live on YouTube - (Channel name - Stornoway Free Church). A good in-person attendance at the service would be big encouragement to the Smith family.

Anyone who still wishes to contribute to the presentation should do as soon as possible.

There will be light refreshments available in the M.A. Hall after the service with an opportunity to meet the Smith family. If you wish to donate sweet or savoury food please contact Donna Maciver on 07810 386774 or email [email protected].

Please continue to pray for Mr Smith, his wife Johan and their children, Joni, Marissa, and Danny as they settle into the congregation.  Pray also that the new ministry will be abundantly blessed by God to the spiritual nourishing of His people and to an in-gathering of those who are still strangers to His grace.

Free Breakfast @ The Free Church

We hope to resume this annual outreach event on Sunday 17th July from 8:30am-10:30am. Everyone who has been involved in previous years has commented on what a positive experience it has been. We already have a main cook, but we need assistants in the kitchen, dishwasher operators, tea and coffee servers to go around the hall, folk to clear up and set up in between guests and most importantly, folk to welcome and chat to our visitors (if they wish to chat).  If you can speak another language, all the better!

We also need people to pray that it will run smoothly, that it will be a positive witness both to our local community and further afield and that our welcomers will be able to engage in fruitful conversations.  If you wish to be involved, please contact Peigi Maclennan or email the church office.

18-30 Discipleship Group
Following a survey carried out within the Presbytery amongst 18-30 year olds, it was identified that there was an interest among a number of people in the 18-30 age group, to have the opportunity to meet together for fellowship but importantly to support one another to grow in their discipleship in Christ.

The Free Church of Scotland has a vision for A Healthy Gospel Church for Every Community in Scotland, and part of this recognises that healthy churches ‘promote discipleship and are characterised by loving relationships.’

As such the first in-person meeting of this new group will be held at 6.30pm on Friday 24th June 2022, in the upper hall of the M.A. Hall, Kenneth Street.

All members and adherents in the 18-30 age group are warmly invited to come along for some food, fellowship, and discussion on what opportunities there are to support one another to grow as disciples of Christ. Anyone wishing to find out more can contact Gordon Macleod, the Presbytery Youth & Discipleship Support Worker: ([email protected] )

Friday 17th June, 7.00-9.00pm - Healthy Gospel Church Youth Work

We would like to invite all those who work with children and young people in the congregation as well as parents/carers of children to come along to an evening to share ideas about the future of children’s work and youth work in our congregation. Any young people who would like to come along and input their ideas would be most welcome too!

The last two years have changed many things in our lives, and this has impacted families, churches and community life. We recognise there is no going ‘back to normal’ because change is always propelling us forward.  We would like to take this opportunity to invite those with an interest in the children’s work and youth work of the church to come and share ideas together. We will be asking the question, “What does youth and children’s work look like in a healthy gospel church?” Gordon Macleod, Presbytery youth worker will be with us and help guide our time together.

We will meet in the M.A. Upper hall. Please pray for God to guide our thoughts and discussion.

Sunday School Snippet

Last Sunday we joined onto a Zoom call with our friend Muriel in Cambodia.  The Tweenies sang two songs for her. Muriel showed us on a map where Cambodia is and how to get there.  She told us about the language.  She showed us pictures of her house and the girls she works with.  The church is similar and different to our one and our Sunday School in Stornoway.  One time there was 53 people that got baptised and it was different to how we do it.  There was a couple who got baptised and their child watched it.  We learnt that it is good to know how other countries worship Jesus in other ways.

All the classes got a chance to ask Muriel questions. Muriel said that the weather is really good, so everyone goes outside a lot.

Some of our Sunday School collection that we put in each week will be given to Muriel to buy better resources for 3 different Sunday Schools like books, pictures to colour and pens to use them with.  Muriel asked us to pray for the Sunday Schools and the children that go to them, also the villages and that the children will be keen to go to Sunday School and get their parents excited for church.  Muriel also said “God bless” in Cambodian which was really cool and interesting.
