Notices - Sunday 25th February

South Harris Free Church Renovation Appeal.
The South Harris Free Church congregation (formerly Leverburgh) intend carrying out essential repairs to the roof of their church and to make some internal renovations to the sanctuary area.  The cost of the work is estimated to be around £65,000.

South Harris is one of our smaller congregations and they commend the appeal to the prayerful and practical support of congregations within the Presbytery.

Anyone who wishes to contribute to the work should place their contribution in an envelope clearly marked South Harris Free Church’ and place it in the collection plates at either the church or the Seminary.  If paying by cheque, please make it payable to Stornoway Free Church

Keswick Convention 2024 - A Travel to Keswick Opportunity
A bus from Ullapool all the way to Keswick peppered with some lunch and comfort breaks en route. The plan is to leave Ullapool on the morning of the 13th July after having travelled over on the first ferry. Attend first week of the conference where Rev David Gibson of Trinity Church Aberdeen is the main speaker that week, and then return on the morning of the 20th, reverse of outward trip, coming home on the evening Ferry.

We last did the coach trip back in 2017, and it was a blessed experience.

It's open to every church.  The bus still has room and it’s unlikely to be filled. Whether you've been before or always wanted to go to Keswick this is a fantastic opportunity - no driving, relax, enjoy the scenery, read, chat, or just chill out.

The journey just disappears, and if all goes to plan, we should be in Keswick in time for the week's opening evening event.

For more information contact David Morrison at [email protected].

Respond to the Scottish Govt’s ‘conversion practices’ consultation

Respond to the Scottish Govt’s ‘conversion practices’ consultation

Guide on how to respond

As you know, on 9 January the Scottish Government published its extreme proposals for a new law to ban so-called conversion practices. Groups like Stonewall and the Humanist Society are encouraging their supporters to respond to the public consultation on the proposals. They want a ‘conversion practices’ law that would force Christians to endorse LGBT ideology. So it’s absolutely crucial that the Scottish Government hears from Christians.

Please respond to the consultation today. To help you respond, The Christian Institute has produced an overview of the proposals and a guide for using the online response form. The guide identifies the key consultation questions and gives ideas for how to respond.

Communion
The Lord’s Supper is due to be observed at the morning services on Sunday 18th February 2024. The visiting ministers expected are Rev Calum Macdonald, Callanish, for the Gaelic services, and Rev Angus Macrae, Inverness Free North, for the English services.

The Kirk Session will be opened on Wednesday 14th in the Seminary after the service that evening. Thereafter the Session will meet in the Kenneth Street Session Room after each of the services on Friday and Saturday, apart from Saturday morning when it will meet in the Seminary Session room. As always, any who wish to take communion for the first time are invited to meet with the Session at any of the occasions above. The ministers and elders are also most willing to speak at any point over the next couple of weeks with anyone who has thoughts of taking communion for the first time.

Communion tokens will not be used.

The 8.00 morning prayer meetings will be led by elders.

Please pray that God’s blessing will be evident throughout these services and that as a congregation we will be encouraged and uplifted. Pray also for the ministers expected.
