Death
We were very sorry to hear that Mr George Murray, Sand Street, had passed away, aged 73. We extend our condolences to his brother Allan, sister Annie Mary and her husband Alex Dan, along with nephews Colin John and his wife Fiona; Ronnie and wife Emma; and niece Anna and her husband Ross. We also remember all grand nephews and nieces, friends, work colleagues and neighbours of George.
We pray that they will all know God’s comfort in their loss.
55+ Fellowship
The next meeting of the 55+ Fellowship will be held on Friday 21st April between 2.30pm and 4.00pm in the MA Hall.
This date is of great significance to the island of Lewis. One hundred years ago on this date the Metagama sailed from Stornoway with over 300 young people from Lewis heading for a new life in North America. As our meeting falls on this commemorative date, I thought it would be appropriate for us to mark the occasion. Therefore, we will have as our guest speaker local broadcaster Coinneach ‘Mor’ Maciver from Upper Coll, who has been involved in the schools Metagama project over recent months.
The singing will be led by Ali “Laxay” Macdonald.
We appreciate the support we are receiving from the congregation for the 55+ Fellowship and a warm welcome is extended to you to join us.
If anyone would like transport to and from the meeting please contact Duncan Norman on 07787 973802 or 860 418.
Explorers Family Service - Sunday 23rd April (11:00am)
Families are invited to come along to this special service, led by Rev Calum Murdo Smith, with a focus on the work of Explorers in our congregation. The service will be suitable for all the family.
Explorers and Sunday School children, please meet in the hall at 10:45am. Leaders and children will sit together downstairs. Parents and Carers are welcome to sit anywhere in the church for the service.
All are welcome to the church hall afterwards for a cuppa and to hear the children sing and recite some of what they’ve been learning.
Thank you from Crossroads
The Crossroads team wish to thank all who supported their fundraising lunch last week. Over £1000.00 was raised, and this will go a long way to help carers in Lewis.

Safe Families.
Some of you will have been at our Congregational Fellowship a few months ago to hear Catherine Macdonald speak about 'Safe Families' which has now launched in the Western Isles. Safe Families is a Christian family support charity which seeks to link local volunteers to families who are isolated and struggling. Safe Families was one of the projects supported by the WFM project last year. As Christians we are called to love the marginalised in our community and this is a very practical way of showing Christ’s love in action.
Safe Families provide excellent training and support. Volunteers can be linked to children or parents depending on suitability. Even a few hours a month can make a real difference in the life of a child or parent.
If you want to volunteer please go to the Safe Families website and click on the 'get involved' and 'volunteer' button and then 'volunteer sign up' and you will be invited to your first online training module and then one of the local staff will be in touch and will talk you through the training process.

The Scotland Programme Manager for Safe Families, Andy Murray, is with us today and will be available to chat to anyone in the hall afterwards if you have any more questions or want more information. The local team can be contacted at The Shed on [email protected]
