Election of Office Bearers

The Kirk Session gave further consideration recently to the election of new elders and deacons. It was decided that the names of all male communicants be listed, including those who had withdrawn their names previously, but not including those who are unable to sign the Formula; those not in regular attendance at the means of grace; those subject to an age restriction; and those who have health issues which would prevent them from carrying out the duties of office. This ought to ensure that when those who have received the most votes are subsequently asked whether they are willing to accept office, the will of the communicant membership will be known to them, thus giving them grounds for an informed decision, rather than being asked ahead of the election if they are willing serve. All those on the Communion Roll of the congregation are eligible to vote and will be asked to choose up to 8 elders and 8 deacons from the list. Details of what to do will be included with the voting paper which will be available at the mid-week meetings this week and also next Lord’s Day. A workshop/training day will be arranged for those elected ahead of ordination. Please do continue to pray about this.
