Election Briefing
The Christian Institute have produced an excellent booklet called “Election Briefing 2019,” This sets out clearly the policies of all political parties fielding candidates in the forthcoming General Election on issues of importance to Christians, such as education, marriage, abortion, transgenderism, Sunday trading, drugs and gambling, among others. There are plenty copies available at the door. Please take one and inform yourself in detail ahead of the election. There is also an insert containing questions which can be put to candidates on some of these issues.
Appointment of Presbytery Youth Discipleship Support Worker
The Western Isles Presbytery is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Gordon Macleod as Youth Discipleship Support Worker. Gordon, who is an elder in the North Harris congregation, will take up his post on 1st March 2020, God willing. His remit will include working with youth leaders and Kirk Sessions to develop youth discipleship in congregations throughout the Western Isles. He will coordinate the existing Presbytery youth work such as the hugely popular Presbytery youth camps and Big YF and look for new opportunities to develop the work. Gordon succeeds Alison Macdonald who was the Presbytery Youth Worker from 2005 – 2015. The change in title of this post reflects the change in remit and emphasis. Please give thanks to God for this appointment and pray for Gordon as he prepares to take up his post.
Salvation Army Collection
At this time of year the local branch of the Salvation Army help a considerable number of individuals and families in our community. There will be an opportunity for the congregation to contribute to this work over the next 2 weeks by donating either toiletries (can be everyday or gift packs) or gifts for whole families (such as a box of biscuits/chocolates, or family board games) - all items must be new and unused. Items can be placed in the box inside the hall door. The final date for donations is Sunday 15th December.
Gifts will be sorted and packaged by volunteers on Wednesday 18th December at the Salvation Army Hall from 9.30am - if anyone is able to help with this please contact Elaine Macmillan, 07876 225120.

Contributing to the funds of the congregation by Standing Order
In recent weeks several in the congregation have enquired about contributing regularly to the funds of the church by Standing Order instead of by Freewill Offering envelopes. Setting up a Standing Order facility for this purpose is a simple exercise and anyone interested in doing so should speak to Murdo Macphail, the Congregational Treasurer. Murdo can be contacted on 01851 705445.
Basic First Aid Course
This course is to be held on Monday 2nd December at the Newton Community Centre, Seaforth Road from 7.15pm to 9.15pm.
Those from the congregation who are involved in leading groups, Sunday School, Creche , Youth Work etc who would like to complete a Basic First Aid Course are asked to sign up at the front door.
