Deaths
We were sorry to hear that Mary Morrison, New Valley/Lewis Street, recently passed away. We extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends, in particular her daughters, Christine, Muriel, May and Heather and the grandchildren Shaun, Kara, Shannon, Robert John, Sophie and Tommy.

We pray that they, along with the extended family and friends, will know God’s comfort in this time of loss.

We were also very sorry to hear of the death of Captain Alastair Donald Macarthur, who passed away, aged 71. Alistair grew up in Stornoway but latterly lived between Thailand and Aberdeen.

We extend our sincere condolences to his daughters Rhona and Alexandria, grandchildren George, Gem, Leighton, Harry and Olivia. We also remember his siblings, Donald, Murdo (and Anne), Norman (and Joan), Margaret, Roderick and Marie, as well as the extended family circle and Alastair’s many friends.

We pray that they may all know the Lord’s comfort and strength in this time of sorrow.

Thursday 6th October - EXPLORERS Volunteers meeting
Explorers is the new name for Campaigners! Our 3 Campaigners groups ran for almost 30 years in the congregation, from 1991 to 2020!  The sterling work done over these years was a blessing to many young people in our church and community. We thank God for this legacy.

We are looking forward to restarting after the October holidays, with a few changes. The name will change to ‘Stornoway Free Church Explorers’, or just ‘Explorers' for short! There will be two groups, one for P1-P3 and one for P4-P7. The core ethos of the groups will remain the same as Campaigners - holistic children’s work to share the Good News of Jesus.

The new groups will run consecutively on Thursday evenings in the MA hall, God willing. P1-P3 at 6.00-7.00pm and P4-P7 at 7.00-8.15pm. We need volunteers with a variety of skills and gifts, who concur with the ethos of Explorers and have a heart for children.  Perhaps you could help?

For those keen to be involved or find out more, please come along to our initial volunteers meeting: Thursday 6th October - Rev M.A. Hall from 7.30-8:30pm

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact [email protected]. Those who are new to youth work will be required to go through a recruitment process and join the PVG scheme.

Please pray for Explorers to be a means of drawing children to follow Jesus and to bring glory to God’s name. Thank you.

Sunday School Snippet
In Sunday School we are learning about the Ten Commandments. We know that we should worship God without any images or idols.  People can make things in their lives into idols like gold, money, fame or even food. Our teacher Karen told us that there is a God shaped hole in everyone’s heart that can only be filled by God. Our minister Calum Murdo said that in the pulpit too. Ellen P5.

The Christian Institute – Scotland Tour Autumn 2022
As part of their tour The Christian Institute will host a meeting on Tuesday 4th October at 7.30pm in the Cabarfeidh Hotel, Stornoway.

The topic this evening will be ‘Fighting For The Family’.

When the Lord’s people were surrounded by their enemies, Nehemiah encouraged them not to be afraid, to remember the greatness of the LORD and to fight for their families (Nehemiah 4:14). In our day too, when Christian families are facing hostile, secular ideologies, the need to fight for the family has never been greater. Join us for these special meetings to find out more.

Pastoral care of students
We would like students and young people who have just left home to further their education or work on the mainland, and who are linked to our congregation, to be aware of our continued pastoral care for them. We would appreciate if parents, or grandparents/guardians, could provide us with names and contact addresses so that we can maintain contact and let them all know of our continued prayers for them as they begin a new chapter in their lives.
