Notices - Sunday 20th January

Tonight
Big YF meets in the Hall after the evening service. We will hear from special guest, Gavin Peacock, on Facetime from Canada. This will be a Q&A about his life of faith, as a minister and formerly as a professional footballer. All young people are warmly encouraged to come along.  
 
Gavin Peacock is Discipleship Pastor at Calvary Grace Church in Calgary Alberta. He was a professional Footballer for 18 years, playing in the Premier League for Newcastle United and Chelsea. He then worked for the BBC, regularly appearing as a pundit on Football Focus, Match of the Day 2 and BBC Radio 5 live, before entering full time Christian ministry. He recently appeared on a BBC Programme My Faith and Me, explaining his journey from Premier League goal scorer to a career devoted to preaching the Gospel.

Deacons’ Court will meet at 7pm in the Session Room, Kenneth St.
 

Tuesday 22nd January
Basic Christianity discussion group will meet from 7:30-9pm in the MA Hall. Please join us in a relaxed informal setting to explore what Christianity is all about.
Friday 25th January- The Lewis Branch of the Scottish Reformation Society is hosting a Lecture in the Nicolson Institute at 7.30pm. Rev Paul Murray of Kinloch will be speaking on the subject of The Life & Ministry Rev John "Big MacRae". There will also be a bookstall available. All are welcome.


Saturday 26th January
Ladies Walking Group will meet at 11am at the car park, Lews Castle Museum for a walk in the Castle grounds. All fitness levels welcome!
This is intended to be a regular meeting on the last Saturday of each month. Please contact Chrisell on 07484 773660 if you would like further information.


Youth Work Placement
We have the pleasure of welcoming Megan Macdonald, from Glenelg, for six weeks of youth work in the congregation. Megan started her placement on Monday. Megan is studying youth work at Edinburgh Theological Seminary and the placement forms part of her course.  She will work closely with Mairianne, our Youth and Admin Assistant, and hopes to gain experience across the spectrum of youth work activities in the congregation. Please pray for Megan as she continues her placement with us.
 

Senior Presbytery Camp
Booking forms are now available for the Senior Presbytery Camp which runs in Scaladale from Friday 8th to Monday 11th February 2019. The camp is open to young people aged S3-S6 and costs £35. Book early to avoid disappointment. Contact Catriona Macdonald for more information - 07717 368004.

South Uist and Benbecula Free Church would like to offer their sincere thanks for the contribution from the Soup and Pudding Lunch held last August towards updating the heating system in the church at Lochboisdale. They are pleased to report that the heating system has now been updated. Their prayer is that God would richly bless our congregation.

Friday 1st February- Western Isles Free Church Mission Support Group will be hosting their annual supper evening at 7pm in the MA Hall. The speaker will be Janice Gilmour who will speak about her recent trip to Iraq. Donations from the evening will go to Muriel Macleod (Cambodia) & Catriona Macdonald (Peru). All very welcome.
 
 
Communion: The next communion will be held on the Lord’s Day 17th February 2019. Details of services will be given nearer the time. We expect to have Rev Colin Macleod, Leith Free Church for the English services. Colin is a son of the late Rev Murdo Alex Macleod who was minister of the Stornoway Free Church from 1984-1995. The Gaelic services and communion will be conducted by Rev Roddy John Campbell, North Tolsta Free Church. Rev Callum Macleod, Shawbost and Rev Iain Macritchie, Park, will also be conducting some of the pre-communion services.
