Friday 24th June 6.30pm - Upper M. A. Hall - 18-30 Discipleship Group

Following a survey carried out within the Presbytery amongst 18-30 year olds, it was identified that there was an interest among a number of people in the 18-30 age group, to have the opportunity to meet together for fellowship but importantly to support one another to grow in their discipleship in Christ.

The Free Church of Scotland has a vision for A Healthy Gospel Church for Every Community in Scotland, and part of this recognises that healthy churches ‘promote discipleship and are characterised by loving relationships.’

All members and adherents in the 18-30 age group are warmly invited to come along for some food, fellowship, and discussion on what opportunities there are to support one another to grow as disciples of Christ. Anyone wishing to find out more can contact Gordon Macleod, the Presbytery Youth & Discipleship Support Worker: ([email protected] )

Sunday School Snippet

Today we learnt about the prayers of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector.  The Pharisee was proud, boastful and thought he was better than others.  We learnt our prayers should be more like the Tax Collector’s.  He felt bad for his wrongs, he felt humble and felt not worthy.  We learnt that through Jesus our sins are forgiven.  We can go to God and ask him to forgive us for things we do in our day that weren’t nice.

God always wants to hear our prayers.  We wrote what we will pray for this week.

Sunday School Prize Giving

We hope to see as many as possible of our children and their families from our crèche, Tweenies, Sunday School and Bible Class on Sunday 26th June as we will be holding our prize giving after the morning service.  How wonderful it will be to see everyone together for the first time since 2019!

Free Breakfast @ The Free Church

We hope to resume this annual outreach event on Sunday 17th July from 8:30am-10:30am. Everyone who has been involved in previous years has commented on what a positive experience it has been. We already have a main cook, but we need assistants in the kitchen, dishwasher operators, tea and coffee servers to go around the hall, folk to clear up and set up in between guests and most importantly, folk to welcome and chat to our visitors (if they wish to chat).  If you can speak another language, all the better!

We also need people to pray that it will run smoothly, that it will be a positive witness both to our local community and further afield and that our welcomers will be able to engage in fruitful conversations.  If you wish to be involved, please contact Peigi Maclennan or email the church office.

Volunteers Needed to Greet Cruise Visitors

The Session has recently given permission for the Church to be open to visitors on a number of selected days this summer when Stornoway will have many extra visitors due to cruise liners visiting and also due to the HebCelt Festival.

If you would like to volunteer to be on duty for a few hours on an open day, on a rota basis, to meet and greet visitors to the Church building, then please contact Marten Walker on 704586.

This opportunity is open to men and women, young and old, and members and adherents. The only qualification that you need is the ability to give visitors a warm welcome!

Presentation to Rev Calum M. Smith and his family.  As a congregation we are all looking forward to welcoming Rev Calum M. Smith and his family as our new assistant minister.  The induction will be held on Friday 1st July and in the weeks between now and then, an opportunity is given to contribute towards a presentation which will be handed over on the evening of the induction.

Contributions should be placed in an envelope clearly marked ‘Presentation’ and left in the collection plates at the church or Seminary.  If contributing by cheque, please make it payable to ‘Stornoway Free Church’.

Please continue to pray for the Smith family as they adjust to their new environment and also for the congregation of North Uist, Grimsay and Berneray that God will provide a new pastor who will lead them in the work of ministry and outreach.

Summer Holiday Club

God willing we hope to run a Bible Holiday Club for primary school aged children this summer from Monday 1st to Friday 5th August, 10:30am to 12:30pm in the M.A. Hall.

We need volunteers - Many hands make light work!

If you are interested in helping in any way with the preparations or being part of the team during holiday club week there are plenty jobs to do both big and small.  i.e. donations of baking, craft making or preparation, helping with hall decorating, games, registration, singing, administration and/or IT tasks....

Above all please pray for God's guidance and that ultimately in all, His Name will be glorified.
