Special collection - Karen Ministry
For over twenty years, the Free Church has had an interest in the oppressed Christian community within the displaced Karen people of Burma and Thailand. On a number of occasions over the years, our congregation has supported the work of a Bible School in one of the refugee camps where the Karen people are living.
Two years ago, a project to translate training material from the reformed website ThirdMillennium.org was commenced. The goal is to provide high quality Christian education, which is then delivered via tablets or MP4 players to support Karen preachers in remote rural areas without them having to spend long periods away from their farms and congregations.
Translation work is expensive and it is estimated that to have a full course translated will cost around £11,000. The financial resources available for this ministry has only covered the cost of translating one third of the modules.
Following discussion of an appeal to our Deacons’ Court, it was agreed to hold a Special Collection for this purpose at the close of all services today. Collection points will be available at each exit and at the doors leading from upstairs.
Licensing of Students for the Ministry
The Presbytery is due to meet in the Rev MA Macleod Memorial Hall, Stornoway, at 10.30am on Wednesday 20th June 2018 for the 'trials for license' of Mr Iain Macritchie who has recently completed his studies at ETS. On the successful completion of the Presbytery’s examination, Mr Macritchie will be licensed to preach the gospel at a public service to be held on the same day at Cross Free Church, Ness, at 7.30pm. Everyone is warmly encouraged to attend the service and to meet afterwards for light refreshments at Comunn Eachdraidh Nis.
As part of the examination process, Mr Macritchie has a preaching engagement in Barvas Free Church on Sunday 17th June at 11am.
The Presbytery is thankful to the Lord for all who have been involved in training our future ministers and encourages prayerful remembrance of Mr Macritchie as he prepares for his trials for licensing and his future public ministry.
