ETS Saturday Theology Course 2017-18

Lectures in 2017/2018

BIBLICAL STUDIES
God's Plan of Redemption: The Covenant
Lecturer: Rev Will Traub
For many, the OT is a bit of a mystery. We are familiar with individual ‘stories’ or episodes from the OT, but how we are to understand it as Christians today is often difficult. This course will help you to understand how the OT ties together and how it all points us to Christ. It will introduce you to the Biblical notion of God’s Covenant as the key to understanding of not only the OT, but the NT as well.

CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE
The Exalted Christ
Lecturer: Rev Alasdair I Macleod
Jesus is Lord! The whole New Testament was written in the unshakeable confidence that the crucified Jesus was now the exalted Lord. We will look at our theme from four perspectives: first, the reality and significance of his resurrection and ascension; secondly, his heavenly activity as prophet, priest and king; thirdly, our present connectedness with him in union and communion; and fourthly, the end-time events of his return and the renewal of all things in him.

PRACTICAL THEOLOGY
Living as Reformed Christians in the 21st Century
Rev Dr John Nicholls
The ‘Reformation’, whose 500th anniversary is celebrated in October 2017, was not merely a rediscovery of certain crucial Christian teachings. Rather, it was a movement of God’s Spirit that revolutionised the whole life of societies and individuals. The influence of the ‘Reformation’ has spread across the whole planet, so that today there are vibrant “Reformed” churches in every continent and most countries. What are the characteristics of a ‘Reformed Christian’ and a ‘Reformed Church’? This course will give you a great opportunity to explore the effect of the ‘Reformation’ on the daily life and worship of believers, whatever culture they belong to.
